Miss USA 2010

If you guys are fimilar with the current news in regards to the Miss USA beauty pageant, then you will know what's the recent issue with this new Miss USA - Rima Fakih. Firstly, she's an immigrant (Lebanese). Secondly, there are pics of her participating in a pole dancing competition but no nudity and perhaps the closest to nudity was her bikini pic for the pageant which shouldn't be an issue. Thirdly, during the pageant, she stumbled with her walk. Fourthly, according to some article, the way she answered the question on birth control/health issue is not satisfactory.

The first time i saw her pic, i think she was pretty and her name sounded kindda weird because it is not an American name. Further, she doesn't look like an American citizen. Of course i was shocked when i heard she was actual an immigrant and a Muslim (maybe immigrant is not the right term but you can't call her a foreigner. I'm sure she's a US citizen, if not she wouldn't be able to participate in Miss USA. She's a USA citizen with an immigrant background - maybe that's more accurate).

Below i copy a paste a portion of the article :

"Miss Hezbollah is now Miss USA," declared conservative radio talk show host Debbie Schlussel, saying that Fakih's relatives in Lebanon had ties to the terrorist organization based there. Schlussel also said Fakih received some financial backing from onetime Hezbollah supporter Imad Hamad — or, as Schlussel put it, Fakih's "bid for the pageant was financed by an Islamic terrorist." Suggesting the pageant was "rigged," Schlussel wrote off Fakih's victory to a "politically correct, Islamo-pandering climate."

When there's an issue involved America, i'm always suspicious of them. Are they trying to tarnish the image of a Muslim or Arabs? I say so because if they let her win, she will be well known and of course any dark secret she has (like that pole dancing) will leaked out. Any anti Muslims will be more than happy to bitch about this matter. Look at Malaysia, they don't allow Malay girls to participate because of that bikini part, it doesn't go hand in hand with Malaysia's Islamic image. Although Malaysia is not strictly Islamic in the sense forcing all the women to cover up, but at least they don't make something immoral into "public". Of course in Malaysia you have sex parties, sex out of wedlock, drug abuse, etc but these things are to be done discreetly. They even make sure the Malaysian artists don't wear scantily in movies or no immoral movie scenes like kissing or sex scene. However, some Malaysian artists still wear scantily but of course society will be bitching about her and her reputation will be tarnished.

Okay, i've diverted from the main topic. Back to this beauty pageant issue. Even last year Miss USA has her own controversy because of some racy pics if i'm not mistaken.

Sometimes i don't really know what's the purpose of beauty pageants. Are they looking for smart beautiful graceful women? What are they looking for in beauty? You know, when people are chosen to be Miss USA or Miss Malaysia, they are going to represent their countries and compete with other countries. Aren't you suppose to show the "beauty of your own country"? Like USA for example, Fakih Rima doesn't look like an all american beauty, can you really say she represent USA? She might as well represent Labenon. When people watch Miss Universe and see all the beauties representing their countries, in a way, we learn how the people of different countries look like, what is the beauty of that country.

Like in Malaysia, since Malays/Muslims can't participate, i think what really represent Malaysia in beauty pageants when competing with other countries is a girl who is mixed with Indian Chinese. They look different but they are part of Malaysia's multiracial society. Sabahans and Sarawakians can participate too but i never seen any of them representing Malaysia to compete in Miss World and Miss Universe. Most Sabahans and Sarawakians are non Muslims so why not? Perhaps the problem is that they lacked HEIGHT. Only a few of them have the height of a model.

So back to Rima Fakih. Lebanon are famous for having beautiful people. Im pretty sure Lebanon can come out with a even prettier contestant. And hopefully she's smart too.

Choose someone that really represent your country. That's the essence of a beauty pageant. And when you choose, choose the BEST. Don't just pick some random pretty girl. Show of your country's natural beauty. Be smart when you compete.
