Compliments

Today's blog is about COMPLIMENTS. According to Dictionary.com, compliment means (not that i'm insulting you intelligence thinking that you don't know what is a compliment :k ) :

an expression of praise, commendation, or admiration: A sincere compliment boosts one's morale.

This is one of the meanings of compliment given by Dictionary.com. The key word here is SINCERE. These are my observations on the types of compliments that exist :

1. Genuine compliment.
2. Kiss Ass compliment.
3. Obligatory compliment.
4. Fake compliment.

Let me elaborate on each type.

1. Genuine Compliment :
This your typical normal sincere compliment. You compliment or you say something nice because you think it's true. You say your friend's handbag is cute coz you really think it's cute. You think that boy is an asshole, so you tell the boy he's a world class asshole. Oops, sorry that doesn't sound like a compliment. Another example, you think that person is really smart, so you tell the person he's smart :Angel.

2. Kiss Ass compliment :
Commonly takes place in an environment when you are working or doing something with someone with a higher position than you. Like student-teacher, employer-employee. Why kiss ass compliment? Coz you wanna get that promotion and one of the methods in doing so is to say nice things to your employer despite you think he's a world class bastard/bitch :|. Basically, you give a kiss ass compliment coz u want to get something beneficial in return even if it means jeopardizing your dignity or being a hypocrite . This is another form of fake compliment, given willingly.

3. Obligatory compliment :
I think this is very common. Like i ask whether this dress looks good on me, and because you don't want to hurt my feelings, you say it looks great on me. You think you are obliged to say something nice either because you are my friend, you don't to hurt me or you think it's a small matter and even if you lie, it's just a small white lie :f. Obligatory compliments are like fake compliments too but it's not as bad as kiss ass and fake compliments because the SITUATION ITSELF requires you to tell a small white lie. They are given because they are asked to comment on something and thinking a POSITIVE answer is required, they compliment it. It's like, you may hate your wife but because she's your wife, you are still obliged to go back to her every night or do things for her.

4. Fake compliment :
Mother fake of all fake compliments :@. Why do people give fake compliments? To DECEIVE others. Example : when a guy says the girl is like a goddess, pretty, cute, beautiful, smart, sexy and all other nice things just to get into her panties or to get close to her. This is almost similar with kiss ass compliments but i like to apply kiss ass compliment more in a 'working/ studying environment' where else for fake compliment, it's for social environment (wider concept).


One won't really know whether the compliment is genuine or not. It all depends on the compliment giver's INTENTION. Compliments should come naturally, you shouldn't go around seeking for compliments or phrase questions hoping to get compliments. God, i meet a lot of people like that, those that like to fish for compliments :@. Sometimes you do want to compliment it's nice but because you know that person is fishing for compliments, you just don't feel like saying it's nice, good or whatever :|.

Like if you see a pic, it's up to you to comment whether you like it or not. If you really like a picture, you compliment it if you want. If you don't like it, you can bitch about it but since people don't like being criticized, you can just shut up :i.

I just hate it if people give fake compliments. It's very deceiving :@. Hell, i would call it FRAUDULENT COMPLIMENT. If you don't think something is good, you better keep quiet about it UNLESS the compliment receiver ask you a question which looks like positive feedback is required. Another example, like if i ask if i'm fat. If the situation does prove that i'm fat, you can either say so or just give a small white lie. You are not really a bad person coz you are being put in a situation to give an answer. This is when the obligatory compliment comes in. Of course, as the person who ask about the fat question, i should be prepared with the answer, be it positive or not, i shouldn't be angry.

Now, it's a different matter when you are minding your business and suddenly a fat comment is thrown at you xo. You are entitled to bitch slap and bitch flying kick that person :Fire. No one ask for his comment in the first place.
