Madaba, Mount Nebo and Dead Sea, Jordan – Day 3 : Dry Skin, Castle, Church, Super Duper Windy & Dead Sea

I woke up this morning realizing how DRY my skin was due to the low humidity weather. It’s a good thing because one of the big stupid pimple on my cheek stop growing and start becoming dry without the need of me to apply OXY cream.

For today’s trip, we were suppose to go to Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea but we altered our plans a little because the tour guide said it’s better for us to go to other places instead of Wadi Rum because if we were to go to Wadi Rum, we’ll spend more time in the car and it’s just looking at deserts. According to my trustworthy brochure, Wadi Rum is the “largest and most magnificent of Jordan’s desert landscape”. Magnificent as it may be, i’ve seen enough sandy landscape so I won’t be awe by deserts. Luckily my dad chose to skipped the Wadi Rum. And actually, it’s a very very good thing too because today’s weather is just sooooooooooooooo windy and super strong wind.

So our first trip was to an old castle. More like a fortress. That’s the first place we experienced the super strong wind. From the pictures, you can see how strong the wind is. Next trip was to Madaba and I was excited because of what the tour guide said we’ll find in Madaba. According to the brochure : it’s known as the CITY OF MOSAICS and one of the chief attraction is the contemporary Greek Orthodox Church of St George – is a wonderfully vivid, 6th century Byzantine mosaic map showing Jerusalem and other holy sites.

AT THE CASTLE..

Once in Madaba, we went to the church. It was beautiful, with beautiful colourful holy pictures.

THE CHURCH....

Besides the church, I was so excited with the Mosaic art. It was sooo artistic and beautiful BUT so EXPANSIVE. I went to the factory where they made mosaic arts and they showed how they do it. They have all kinds of pictures in various sizes from small to large but unfortunately, there’s no CAT pictures L. The owner said he could specially make one for me, a picture of a cat and then deliver it all the way to Malaysia (they provided such services for order made from overseas). In my head i was already thinking it’ll be damn expansive because i saw a mosaic picture at a hotel and it cost 130 dinars, what more if it’s specially made for you and delivered to your very own country? And i was very right, he said total will cost me 500 bloody hell dinars. That’s equivalent to RM 1000 +++. My dad would definitely kill me. Instead I bought a medium mosaic picture of a pretty tree which cost 75 dinars and a lecture from my dad on how expansive it was. God, those really large mosaic pictures were very beautiful and will look so beautiful hanging on a house wall and I just stare at it the whole day. I may not be an art expert but i appreciate beautiful arts.

HOW THE WOMAN MAKES THE MOSAIC ART....

THIS IS WHAT I BOUGHT. MEDIUM (MORE LIKE SMALL) SIZE. COST 75 DINARS!

OUTSIDE THE SHOP.... WITH PRETTY FLOWERS...

After that, we went to Mount Nebo, another super strong windy place. Brochure : Mt Nebo is believed to be the place where Moses was buried and most revered holy site in Jordan. Once we are done sightseeing at Mt Nebo, our final destination for the day is the Dead Sea and we will spend a day there. The Dead Sea is around 390 m BELOW SEA LEVEL!

THIS ONE IS AT MOUNT NEBO

NEXT STOP... DEAD SEA!

VIEW OF THE DEAD SEA... EVEN THE TREES LOOK DEAD....

THE DEAD SEA... WITH THE NOT SO DEAD PEOPLE...

BUBBLING EVIL WATER.... ;-P

THE MOUNTAINS AT THE BACKGROUND IS THE "BELOVED" ISRAEL..

Do you know why it’s called the Dead Sea? It’s because there is no living organisms in the sea due to the high level of salt/mineral in the sea. Besides that, things can’t sink into the sea, they will just float. So i’m right to say that you can’t drown in the Dead Sea right? I would love to experience floating in the sea since i’m not capable of doing so but unfortunately, i’m having my period so i can only see my bro and dead floating around in the dead sea. Unfortunately, we were not that long in the dead sea because of the strong currents, due to the strong wind. My dad said that the sea water is sooooooo freaking salty that it made him feel like vomiting.

Dead Sea is also famously known for it’s mud. I saw some people putting the mud on their body. I’m not a beach person so i didn’t like the feel of the water when i touched it because after that, it had a sticky feeling to it. Not to mention that my hair became very dry and felt rough and sticky due to the salty air. I did collect some stones though J. The “Dead” stones J. Before leaving the beach, i saw a lady bug on my sandal. It suppose to bring good luck right? Let’s see how lucky i am tomorrow or will it be vice versa?

We stayed at the Marriott hotel. It’s a beautiful hotel. Funny thing is, the 2 previous days we also stayed at different Marriott hotels and personally i think this 3rd Marriott hotel is the best one. Just because the name is Marriott, doesn’t mean it’s suppose to be nice or 4 or 5 star because the Marriott hotel at Petra doesn’t feel or look like a 5 star hotel but this one at the Dead Sea is like one. I guess that they really have to show a 5 star treatment kind of hotel since the Dead Sea will attract a lot of tourists.
